Gordon Ringold, Ph.D.
Dr. Gordon Ringold serves as the Executive Chairman at Maverix Biomics and was a founding independent board member for the company. Dr. Ringold is also Executive Chairman of Alavita Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a co-founder and director of Maxygen and Alexza Pharmaceuticals, and a director of 3V Biosciences. He has served as chairman and CEO of SurroMed, Inc., a biotechnology company focused on novel biomarker discovery, and CEO of Glaxo-Wellcome Group’s Affymax Research Institute, where he managed the development of novel technologies to accelerate the pace of drug discovery. Previously a professor of pharmacology at Stanford University, he is currently director of Silicon Valley Initiatives at the University of California, Santa Cruz.Thomas (Tom) Kent
Thomas (Tom) Kent serves as President of Maverix Biomics. He joined Maverix in February 2015 as Vice President of Research & Development and was promoted to President in June 2015. Prior to Maverix, Mr. Kent spent nearly four years at Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS), where he served as Sr. Software Architect, Software Engineering Manager and Kaizen leader within the ImmunoOncology organization that has driven the successful delivery of multiple biologics-based medicines for cancer treatment. Before joining BMS, he co-founded and was the CEO of Sciformatix Corporation where he created a new business segment focused on delivering Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) to scientific labs via the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) cloud model. Overall, Mr. Kent has held executive, management, bioinformatics, and software engineering positions at a number of leading companies, within and outside of life sciences, including BMS, Sciformatix, DNA Sciences, Abgenix, Tethys Biosciences, Netflix, KLA-Tencor, and Hewlett Packard. Mr. Kent holds a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Utah and earned an MBA from Santa Clara University.Patricia Chan, Ph.D.
Patricia Chan serves at the Chief Technology Officer at Maverix Biomics and was a co-founder of Maverix. Dr. Chan has over fifteen years of software development experience in the biotech industry. She was a senior software architect at Affymetrix, responsible for designing microarray data deliverables and developing bioinformatics software. Prior to Affymetrix, she was a software engineer at Alza and IBM. She has been a research scientist at the University of California, Santa Cruz, with expertise in non-coding RNA gene discovery, metagenomic analysis, and microbial genome browser development. Dr. Chan holds dual bachelor’s degrees, an MBA from Santa Clara University, and a PhD in Bioinformatics from the University of California, Santa Cruz.Byung-in Lee, Ph.D.
Dr. Byung-in Lee serves as the Vice President of Product Operations at Maverix Biomics. Dr. Lee joined Maverix Biomics in February 2014 having had extensive product development and molecular diagnostic experience in the Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) field, serving most recently as Sr. Director at Pathway Genomics and AltheaDx, where he led biomarker discovery and molecular diagnostic implementation for companion diagnostic development to support clinical trials. Additionally, Dr. Lee held managerial roles at Life Technologies Inc. for Research & Development. He earned his doctorate from University of Illinois and was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Lawrence Livermore National laboratory.Dan Kearns
Dan Kearns serves at the Director of Software Development at Maverix Biomics. Mr. Kearns brings twenty years of systems engineering experience to the genomics space, having designed and built applications and infrastructure for companies including Cisco, Motorola, Siebel, and several startups. Mr. Kearns earned a B.A. in Mathematics from the University of Chicago.
Mark Daly
Mr. Daly has held sales roles in the Life Sciences industry for 24 years at several companies including Affymetrix, Complete Genomics, BGI and Millipore. Mr. Daly has been very successful in growing sales and developing deep, long-term relationships with his client base. These relationships will help to drive sales growth at Maverix as the company continues to evolve. Mr. Daly obtained an MS in Molecular Genetics at the University of British Columbia in 1990.
