The Bio-IT World Conference & Expo, taking place this week in Boston has grown into a highly regarded must-attend conference for life scientists, clinical care, and IT professionals. This year’s program focuses on new trends in data generation, knowledge management, and information technology in life sciences and drug development. There are many interesting and exciting tracks one would not want to miss, including of course the Next-Gen Sequencing Informatics track, the Clinical Genomics track, and the Cancer Informatics track. Aside from the interesting series of talks and presentations, the accompanying Expo provides an excellent venue for networking, discussing the latest trends in the industry, and/or sharing new product developments that are driving biomedical research and the pharmaceutical drug development process.
Maverix Biomics will have a notable presence at this upcoming conference:
- Maverix Biomics has been selected as a finalist for “Bio-IT World Best Practices? Award
- Maverix Biomics was nominated based on its submission of a case study describing the 99 Lives Cat Whole Genome Sequencing Initiative led by researchers at the University of Missouri.
- The winners will be announced during the keynote session at the Bio-IT World Conference and Expo on April 22, in Boston.
- The Best Practices Awards have highlighted outstanding examples of how technology innovations and strategic initiatives can be powerful forces for change in the life sciences.
- Dan Kearns, Director, Software Development, presenter in Next-Gen Sequencing Informaticstrack
- Dan’s Talk: “Turn-key Variant Analysis for the Biologist”
- Date and Time: April 22 at 12.00 pm
- Dan will discuss best-in-class methods for variant analysis, including the visualization and interpretation of results. Four whole genome sequencing data sets representing the same individual will be examined to show the effects of different sample preparation techniques, sequencing platforms (including Illumina HiSeq-X platforms), and read coverage goals on the resulting read coverage and variant calls. Dan will discuss best practices that should guide researchers and bio-informaticians as they evaluate off-the-shelf variant analysis tools versus building their own, and some of the key decisions regarding sample preparation and depth of coverage, which can affect their variant calling results.
